The 2007 Bioenergy Symposium will begin at 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 21, in Stewart Center, Room 218 and continue through May 22 until 4:15 p.m. The two-day conference, hosted by Purdue’s Energy Center in Discovery Park and the Laboratory of Renewable Resources Engineering, will address the regional and national benefits of advancing biofuels as an alternative energy source.

The conference will focus on current research activities as well as commercialization and policy issues on biofuels, with an emphasis on dry grind plants, co-product utilization, biodiesel and cellulose ethanol. The first day of the conference will feature research from the Indiana universities and colleges, while the second day will discuss regional needs and national challenges for biofuels.

A poster session on alternative energy and biofuels research at Purdue will be held in conjunction with the conference. The poster session will be held in the East and West Faculty Lounge in the Purdue Memorial Union.

Event organizers are Jay Gore, interim director of the Energy Center at Discovery Park and associate dean of engineering for research and entrepreneurship; and Michael Ladisch, director of LORRE and distinguished professor of agricultural and biological engineering.

Cost of the conference is $100 per participant. Students are free if they pre-register, or $25 at the door. To register for the symposium, go to: http://discoverypark.purdue.edu/wps/portal/Energy/bioenergy

The workshop has received a grant that can be used to cover the registration fee for those who find it restricting. Please contact Lisa Muncy (lamuncy@purdue.edu or 765-494-0743).

For more information about the conference, contact LORRE at (765) 494-7022 or http://engineering.purdue.edu/LORRE.
